Thought for the Day – Thursday 21st May

Thursday 21st May – Heather Machin

Hebrews 9:24 – “For Christ did not enter a sanctuary made with human hands that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God’s presence.

Last week my bible study notes used the hymn “Just as I am” to focus on our access to God. A couple of phrases in the study notes stood out for me.

The first reminds us of our ability to approach and ask of Jesus: “The only person who dares wake up a king at 3.00am for a glass of water is a child. We have that kind of access.”

The second section spoke of God’s presence: “Jesus entered heaven itself, God’s very presence. ‘Presence is a delicious word …. Nothing else can completely take the place of presence, not gifts, not telephone calls, not pictures, nothing’”.

At this time when we cannot be present with our family and friends, how wonderful to know that through the sacrifice of Jesus we enjoy the unique gift of access to God ‘in boldness and confidence’ – access to a holy presence that is not restricted to special times or places.

We can be with him … Just as we are. Link to Just as I am recording
