JUNIOR CHURCH – JUNIOR SECTION

Well, another year has passed and our children are another year older (so are we!).  Our numbers continue to fluctuate and we can never be sure whether we are preparing a session for 1 or 2 children or for 12 children.  The stories are probably the same ones we all learned in Junior Church (or Sunday School) but with the help of Scripture Union ‘Light’ resources we try to find different ways to share them in a relevant way with our children.  This may involve games where you run about, puzzles and quizzes, chat and, of course, visual aids.

This year we’ve had candles, perfume, skin cream and make-up, camping gear and things to eat.  So, what were the stories that went with these objects?  We started the year with some Old Testament characters – Daniel, Esther and Nehemiah, and then went on to some stories about Jesus from Luke.  We saw, in Genesis, how when we sin, we separate ourselves from God.  We found out how God deals with sin and provides for those who trust and obey Him.  Next, it was back to Luke and Mark for a series on Jesus the Healer.  In November we looked at some of the stories about Abraham, beginning with the promises God made to him.  When we came to the story of the birth of Jesus, we could see the fulfilment of God’s promise to bless all the peoples on earth through Abraham and his descendants.

How amazing it is to have a part in that blessing and to help our children find out about God’s blessing for them too.

JUNIOR CHURCH – BEGINNERS & PRIMARY GROUP

We have eight children – who are very lively and noisy, but a pleasure to be with. We start each week with news time, listening to what they have done during the week. After a story we have an activity based on the story, and then we have a time of play – lego, jigsaws, books etc.

This year some of our stories have been on the things Jesus did, Jacob & Esau, Paul, Moses, creation, Noah and Samuel. We finished the year with a Christmas party.

Thanks go to our rota helpers – Angela, Christine, Denise and Laura.

JUNIOR CHURCH MISSIONARY PROJECT

This is known as the stripy box – which is on the platform every Sunday for anyone who would like to put into it.

This year we raised £200 for child Aid to Russia and the Republics for their Family Aid Fund. The fund helps to provide accommodation to the homeless, clothing and food to the cold and hungry, and operations for the sick. Thank you to all.
