HOUSE OF PUPPETS
The aim of all the puppeteers is to use their skills in puppetry to further the Gospel in and around Dronfield. The team, small though it is, has been faithful in attending the training sessions and in making themselves available for the presentations at the various venues that we have been invited to.
We were asked by the leaders of Emmanuel Church Waterthorpe to take their morning service. Rotherham Baptist opened their doors again to us. A children’s service at Swallownest Baptist Church was excellent. We have been involved in various events in our own church namely Parade Services and Holiday Special.
At all services we try to let the children play with, and ask questions about the puppets, indeed when its possible the children do a small presentation of their own usually to one of the songs that has been part of the service.
We have become regulars at both Cowley Mission Well Dressing and The Garden Party at Ramshaw Lodge and this year we added St Andrews who asked us to help with their Fayre. We were invited to take the School Assembly at Unstone Primary School and a small number of us went along, some of the team still have to work, we proved to be such a success that we went again a few weeks later.
It seems that at every presentation there are those who want to know more about what we are doing and why. It’s an excellent opportunity to say that we want to use puppetry to tell people about the Gospel of Christ. The ministry is quite diverse. Before a gig we write scripts, record the scripts and of course find somewhere to rehearse our puppeteers. On the day we need puppeteers, sound engineers, “roadies” to move the theatre and the sound system, drivers and most of all prayer support.
We do need more people to be involved so if you are reading this and think you might like to give it a try speak to Ray or Don or any of the puppeteers. Thanks to all the puppeteers, and to Don for his guiding hand throughout the year.
