1. The Church recognises and accepts its responsibilities for providing, so far as is reasonably practicable, a safe and healthy environment for all those who use the premises.
2. The Leadership, on behalf of the Church, are ultimately responsible for ensuring that this Policy is implemented and therefore they will, so far as is reasonably practicable, ensure that:-
- the premises are maintained in a safe and healthy condition
- safe means of access and egress are provided and maintained
- all fumishings and equipment are maintained in a safe condition
- the health and safety risks to all persons who use the premises are assessed
- adequate fire fighting equipment is provided and serviced as required
- the safe use, handling and storage of all hazardous substances is maintained
- such information, instruction, training and supervision as is necessary to ensure the safety and health of all those who use the premises is provided
- adequate welfare facilities for all those who use the premises are provided and maintained
- all employees, organisation leaders and helpers are consulted as necessary on health and safety issues
- the conformance with all relevant health and safety legislation, codes of practice, guidance notes etc. are regarded as a minimum standard
- adequate funds and resources to implement and maintain this policy are provided
- a competent person is appointed to co-ordinate the implementation and maintenance of this policy
- This Policy is reviewed at regular intervals.
3. The competent person appointed by the Church as their Health and Safety Adviser is Malcolm Webb
4. The Health and Safety Adviser will co-ordinate the implementation and maintenance of this Policy and ensure that:
- the Leadership are kept fully informed on statutory legislation, codes of practice and other guidance as they affect Health and Safety
- appropriate general and specific risk assessments of the Church’s premises and activities are carried out and reviewed as required and that reports are given to the Leadership
- all accidents are investigated and recommendations made to prevent recurrence
- appropriate accident records are maintained and official bodies informed as required
- adequate arrangements are made for the provision of first aid
- all relevant Health and Safety information is prominently displayed as required.
5. All employees, organisation leaders and helpers have a responsibility to:-
- make themselves familiar with this Policy and conform with it at all times
- take all due care for the Health and Safety of both themselves and others
- observe all safety rules and safe working practices at all times
- co-operate with the Church in the implementation and observance of all Health and Safety requirements
- use appropriate safety devices and protective equipment as required
- report all accidents, hazards and potential hazards outside their personal control to a member of the Leadership or the Health and Safety Adviser
- ensure that all equipment and materials used by them is in a safe condition
- maintain good hygiene and housekeeping standards.
