2ND DRONFIELD (BAPTIST) GUIDES
Another busy year began with the annual trip to the local pantomime, the Scout and Guide Quiz and Thinking day Celebrations. Mud was encountered on a night hike held jointly with Dronfield Woodhouse Guides. Another night hike ended with a welcome bag of chips on our return. Other joint events included a Winnie the Pooh Wide game in which the guides won a”pot of gold”.
The Guides enjoyed an evening of Yoga as well as a games evening including pool, table tennis, volley ball and use of dance mats. The Guides also enjoyed canoeing at Cromford Wharf, Silly Olympics at Wreakes Lane and out door games at Surprise view.
More cooking at Wreakes Lane, this time to gain the Outdoor Cooks badge in the rain! And vegetable kebabs cooked on disposable barbeques as part of the Personal Safety Badge. Other badges gained included Right to be Me where the girls made friends with rocks! Right to Learn, describing the best and worse teachers and the Agility Badge. The Girls worked on the Top Job and Get Moving Go-For-its
Crafts have been popular, particularly ceramics for Mothers day, Christmas and Easter crafts. A Collage depicting Creation was designed by the Guides and displayed in the Church as part of Hope 2008 an arts and crafts event held at Churches throughout Derbyshire.
Three of our guides completed their Baden Powell Award following a weekend near Matlock. Other Guides working on their Baden Powell Challenge arranged a Coffee Evening for MacMillan, raising money for the charity and producing a cook book of the guide’s favourite recipes.
As a unit we held a sleepover with an Indian theme, sampling Indian Cuisine and gaining an Indian Challenge Badge in the process. The Harry Potter Division Camp at Hundall was enjoyed by all that attended with some welcome sunshine as well as the drizzle. The year closed with Ten Pin Bowling replacing our traditional Christmas Party.
Special thanks go to fellow Guiders Katherine and Sophie; to our outgoing and new commissioners Jane and Jackie; to Helen Bellamy youth worker, Steph Pressland Water Activity, Simon Temple Scout Leader, Millie Kemp Collage Work, Sarah for the ceramics, and Yolande for the yoga. Thanks also to the guides and their parents.

2ND DRONFIELD (BAPTIST) BROWNIES
Brownies have had a fun and enjoyable year, making gifts, going out and about and taking badges.
The year began when we made our annual trip with other Brownies, Rainbows and Guides to the pantomime. This has become a highlight for many Brownies and we were especially proud of the members of our Brownie unit who were part of the cast. It was great to see them enjoying themselves in one of their other interests.
Throughout the year the Brownies have worked individually and collectively on many badges. The Brownies worked in small groups on their craft, artist or agility badge depending on which they most wanted to earn. As the nights drew in the entire unit began learning about Road Safety, using packs specially produced for use by Brownies. As a result most of the unit earned the Road Safety badge. We have also been entertained by girls gaining their musicians badge, fed by girls earning cooks badges (I especially enjoy Thursday evenings when Brownies arrive with chocolate cake or other tasty treats!) and waited on hand and foot by hostesses. It's great to see the enthusiasm from our Brownies.
One of the major projects of 2008 was our involvement in the Derbyshire Open Arts Weekend. The Brownies worked for several meetings to create a huge chain of fabric to represent creation. Each link was made from different coloured fabric, filled with card to make it rigid. Once all the coloured links were completed, the Brownies sorted them into colours that showed the stages of the 7 days of creation. We would like to thank Mildred Kemp for all her time and support in planning and helping us to produce this art work.
After over 30 years in Guiding, Snowy Owl (Barbara Drabble) retired as a Guider. We would like to say a huge thank you to Barbara for the commitment and time she has given to Guiding in general but especially to 2nd Dronfield Baptist Brownies and Guides. We look forward to Barbara's continued support as a member of the Trefoil Guild and help to the unit as a Unit Leader.
We have had many of our Brownies go into our Guide unit during the year but have enrolled 12 new Brownies into the pack. Therefore we are still full with 24 Brownies and have several girls waiting to join us.
We would like to thank all those who have helped and supported the Brownies throughout 2008 and ask you to consider if you would be able to commit time to Guiding by volunteering as an Assistant Guider in our pack.
