FOOTBALL FELLOWSHIP
The Football Fellowship includes fans from all sorts of persuasion - some red and white, some blue and white and others from further afield. Despite these obvious differences, they have all gathered together for one common purpose, to raise more money for Home Mission.
Following a challenge to church members in the summer, it was suggested that a fantasy football league might raise about £100 for Home Mission. The plan was to find 10 individuals to donate £10 each; in return, Dave Charles would organise a competition that would allow them to pit their football knowledge against others.
Unlike similar competitions elsewhere, this would have no prize money - the winner would just have a huge grin on their face knowing that they had outwitted the church's great footballing brains. By the end of September, Dave had received confirmation that this was more than just viable; with 12 definite teams it had already exceeded expectations.
And so the Home Mission Technicolour Dream League was born. Each team 'manager' had to select a goalkeeper plus 10 outfield players to score their goals. The aim was to score more goals than you conceded, and hopefully more than the other 11 teams.
Unlike other competitions, this league has 2 fairly unique features:
· Just like real football, a player can only be in one team. Thus an auction was held, to sort out the sheep from the goats.
· This covers players from any of the 92 clubs in the English Football League. You could pick Premiership players that you'd see on Match of the Day, but also those of Chesterfield, Wednesday and the Blades.
