The Ministry of Administration falls under the umbrella of the Church Secretary and it's not just being a secretary and taking minutes. There's much more to it than that.
The church secretary is responsible for leading various teams who behind the scenes ‘oil the wheels’ in the running of the church.
Yes, there is the basic secretarial stuff:
-
production of written agendas for members present at any Church Meeting
-
ensuring formal minutes are taken to record Church Meeting
-
keeping the records of Church Meetings
-
production of written agendas for Leadership meetings
-
ensuring formal minutes are taken to record Leadership meetings
-
keeping the records of Leadership Meetings
-
attending to church correspondence
-
producing and receiving letters of transfer of membership and presenting them to Church Meetings
-
maintaining a roll of members and arranging with the elders for it to be reviewed from time to time in order to ensure its accuracy and currency
-
maintaining a record of baptisms
-
maintaining links with the South Yorkshire Fellowship of Baptist Churches, Yorkshire Baptist Association, The Baptist Union and Churches Together Dronfield and District
-
and, on the first Sunday in December taking the annual census
and if that's all there was then the Church Secretary's job would be simple and straightforward.
Other things though also become the responsibility of the Secretary and hence why they need to lead teams - it's too much for one person to do - let alone do well
Communication Team:
This small team is responsible for various aspects of communication within and outside the church
Health and Safety:
Every building has health and safety obligations. A church is no different and we have a small team responsible for ensuring we meet or exceed all the necessary standards and regulations. Click here for more details
Personnel Team:
As an employer we decided we needed to ensure we dealt with our employees in an open and transparent way that was fair and based around best practice. to this end we established a personnel team using the expertise of church members to meet the demands of our obligations as employers.
Door Stewards:
It's important that people are made to feel welcome as they join us for worship. We have a team of door stewards who have a talent for making people feel welcome and enjoy meeting and greeting those who join us each Sunday.
Other responsibilities include property, garden, general fabric of the church, cleaning the church, registration of marriages and associated returns and of course endless rotas!
In total some 23 people are involved in this important area of church life and we can always use more help.
